for everyone

The morning after visiting the Callanish Stones I had a lovely vision - I was stroking one of the stones and a relief robed figure started to form. Each area I stroked became slowly more detailed but remained just in rock relief though  with each stroke the braided hair and face became more detailed.

I expected I must have seen such a sculpture before and after a search found such sculpture among Greek Kore of about 500BC. I find them very attractive.

If I am away for a year or so I will be chipping away making myself a Greek maiden.

I suppose for me its the relationship of my history. I have spent time in Greece looking at sculpture. There is also real history. It is particularly fascinating to me that greek sculpture influence Buddhist sculpture. The Buddha was not given human form until the Greeks came along. The influence of Buddhism also spread the other way into Christianity. I think these Kore were some of the first realistic pin ups. Or is it that they appear realistic to me. I confess to being a lver of statues. There must be a long latin name for such a perversion. Its a harmless way of getting stoned.

It has been unusually cold and more snow and wind are due on Thursday. We are not used to it.
